Letting our kids lead the way!
My approach to feeding is letting my kids be in charge of ‘what’ they eat at mealtimes (from the selection I provide at the table) and ‘how much’ – this is an evidence-based approach called The Division of Responsibility and helps hugely with fussy eating.
It gives kids the control, which can help them feel less pressure and build independence and confidence.
I’m trying to do the same in other areas of their lives, but it’s hard to let go! I was desperate to ‘neaten up’ this pumpkin, but my daughter did it all – unlikely it will win the school competition, but she was able to start and finish it on her own and gave her a huge wave of confidence I could see.
Which area of parenting would you like to ‘let go’ more of??
Let me know your thoughts, please!
