Easiest Party Cakes

(And why it’s about pleasing the kids, not the parents!)

My twins turned 7 last week and this was the first year I’d made them a cake. I think I got partly put off in previous years thinking it had to be something Pinterest-worthy. Then I found an ace party bakes book where you can still create something fantastic but don’t have to be up all night making intricate fondant figures and endless tiers! (great if you like doing that kind of thing, but given I’ve not really baked much before, I wanted to start slowly 🤓)

My daughter asked for a marshmallow cake (in photo) and my son the ice-cream cake – the latter being the best thing we’ve ever tasted! A party wouldn’t be a party without the marshmallow top hats either.

Some people assume my blog is all about healthy eating but it is not – it is about balanced eating and I believe there is a place for all types of food. I’d love you to have a read of the article I wrote for Party Pieces below on some party food ideas and how we can have space in our lives for cakes and other delights without having to demonise them...and we will be happier for it!

The cakes may not look Insta-worthy but since reminding myself that the aim is to please the kids at their birthday party and not the parents, life has got a whole lot easier!

This is not an ad, but if you were thinking of getting this baking book, my sister’s lovely friend is an Usborne representative and I’m sure would be grateful of the business. You simply order through this link Https://org.usbornebooksathome.co.uk/booksformyfamily/

Did you, or are you planning on making a cake for your child this year?
